Hello, I’m Adetoun. I am an experienced BACP registered therapist working regularly with children and young people in a secondary school and adults and couples in my private practice. My practice is an inclusive space that honours your unique cultural, historical and personal context.
We all encounter times when life feels particularly hard. Perhaps you’re feeling the impact of past hurts, traumas or unresolved issues. Maybe there seems to be no reason for the difficulties and challenges you are currently experiencing, and you just need time and space to talk things through with an experienced professional.
I specialise in trauma-informed therapy, creating a safe and collaborative space for healing. My practice is built on the understanding that trauma can profoundly impact on an individuals sense of self and the world around them. Perhaps developed from my time as an operational lead for a Black-led mental health charity, I have a particular passion of supporting marginalised communities. My role is to walk alongside you in a non-judgmental and empathetic way, as you explore your story, process trauma and develop a stronger sense of self and connection.
Having worked several years within the NHS and then transitioning into the mental health role, I better understand a wide range of mental health issues and the internal and external factors which may impact upon these. By having a deep understanding of the often-difficult challenges that we are presented with in life. Whether traumatic events, work, financial pressures, family conflicts, health concerns, or cultural and identity struggles to name just a few. We will work together to look deeply into these concerns, at a pace that is safe and appropriate for you.
Having obtained a post-qualifying certificate in relationship counselling, I have had the fortunate opportunity to work with couples, experiencing a wide range of relationship issues. When working with couples, I integrate systemic, person-centred therapy (PCT) and psychodynamic approaches. The systemic lens explores relational patterns, interactions and family dynamics. Whilst PCT, ensures each person feels heard and understood. The psychodynamic perspective uncovers unconscious factors and past relational patters. I believe these perspectives work well together in creating a comprehensive and collaborative process. This addresses the 'what', 'how' and 'why' of relationship difficulties, to build a more conscious and connected partnership.
